YEAR 6 TO YEAR 7:
Transition to Secondary English
Establishing the Foundations
SECONDARY SCHOOL ENGLISH FOUNDATIONS
The move from primary to secondary school is one of the most significant academic transitions a student makes.
In primary school, students are supported by one main teacher in a familiar classroom environment. Secondary school introduces multiple teachers, different expectations and a much greater level of independence.
In English, the change can feel particularly sharp. Lessons move more quickly towards structured analysis, subject terminology and GCSE-style objectives. Some students adjust easily. Others feel uncertain about what is expected of them - and that uncertainty can quietly affect their confidence and engagement.
Often, parents are not aware that a disconnect has begun until much later, when formal mock examinations highlight gaps that have developed over time.
This course is designed to prevent that gap from forming so that students begin year 7 prepared, confident and secure in what is expected of them.

YEAR 9 TO YEAR 10:
Preparation for GCSE English
Developing GCSE-Level Writing
GCSE ENGLISH READINESS INTENSIVE
Year 10 marks the formal transition into the GCSE English curriculum.
Over the years, I have worked with many students who begin tuition in tear 10 or 11 feeling lost.
Even the capable students are often unsure what examiners are looking for. Many are confused about the difference between Literature and Language, unclear about how their skills should develop, and uncertain about what they are expected to deliver in their exams.
It is surprisingly common for students to work hard in school yet still feel unsure how everything connects. Able students can underperform simply because they have never understood what is required of them.
This course is designed to provide that clarity and give students a confident and focused start to year 10.
PREPARING EARLY IS FAR MORE EFFECTIVE THAN TRYING TO REBUILD CONFIDENCE ONCE PRESSURE HAS TAKEN HOLD.

GCSE LITERATURE READING COURSES:
Line-by-Line Understanding
of Set Texts
Literature Reading Courses: Building Genuine Understanding of Complex Texts
Many students arrive at GCSE having studied plot summaries, key scenes, or film versions of set texts - but without having read and fully understood the language of the original work.
Shakespearean drama and 19th century prose are written in a language that is unfamiliar to most students (and parents).
These summer courses address that challenge directly.
Across the course, we work carefully through the original text line by line, translating complex language into clear, modern understanding and ensuring students genuinely know what they are reading.
The aim is not exam technique or essay writing.
It is confidence, fluency and secure comprehension of their literature texts - the foundation that underpins successful GCSE study, whether in school or in my term-time courses.
Specific texts are outlined on the course page.
